Mayor Claudia Balducci, on the City Council since 2004, has played a key role representing Bellevue on regional transportation issues. As a member of the Sound Transit Board of directors, she helps guide the development of the East Link light rail line, which will have six stops in Bellevue. Claudia also chairs the Transportation Policy Board of the Puget Sound Regional Council.
A past chair of the Eastside Transportation Partnership, Claudia supported early and intensive public involvement in the East Link project. She served on Bellevue’s Light Rail Best Practices Committee, which helped develop a policy foundation for implementing light rail here in a way that meets residents’ needs.
A resident of Lake Hills, Claudia serves as the council’s liaison with the East Bellevue Community Council. She is a member of the Lake Hills Shopping Center Stakeholder Group, an effort that marked her entry into public service in the early 2000s as an advocate for revitalization of Lake Hills.
Claudia is also liaison to the Bellevue Arts Commission, which advises the council on arts issues in Bellevue, including funding for local artists and arts groups.
Seattle Magazine honored Claudia as one of "Seattle's Most Influential People of 2014." She was manager of the Criminal Justice Improvement Section in the King County Office of Performance, Strategy and Budget, until she stepped down in early 2015. Before that, from 2010 to 2014, she was director of King County's Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention.
Claudia volunteers with the King County Bar Association Cross-cultural Family Law Clinic and is a former board member for King County Women Lawyers. She earned a law degree from Columbia University and a bachelor's degree from Providence College.
A longtime Bellevue resident, Claudia lives in Lake Hills with her husband Jim and son Victor.
