In December 2008, the Bellevue City Council approved an agreement with King County Metro for a new downtown circulator bus service. The purpose of the circulator is to provide an alternative to driving alone for intra-downtown trips and to serve as a “last mile” connection for transit from the Bellevue Transit Center. The downtown circulator will operate Monday – Saturday, and on Sundays during the holiday season. The service will be free to users and feature specially marked stops and Bellevue-branded, transit vehicles that run approximately every 10 minutes. The service is planned to operate on Bellevue Way, NE 10th Street, 110th Ave NE, and Main Street. The service is a partnership with King County Metro made possible as part of the voter-approved Transit Now program. Under the terms of the partnership program, the City will pay one-third of the cost and Metro will cover the remaining two thirds. The service is anticipated to begin by September 2013. Note: The Downtown Circulator is currently on-hold waiting for funding. As the city develops the budget for 2011-2017, this project will be competing with for funds against other needs in the the city. We will know the final outcome of the project budgets at the end of this year.
